Tap Into EVERY Side Of Yourself – Shadow Work Journal Prompts
Last Updated on October 14, 2024
You know that feeling when certain parts of yourself get pushed aside? Maybe it’s your anger, your insecurities, or even that playful, childlike part of you. These things don’t just go away—they sit there in the shadows, waiting for you to notice.
That’s where shadow work comes in. It’s not about “fixing” yourself, but about giving those hidden parts the attention they deserve.
And guess what? You don’t have to dive into this alone. Grab your journal, a cup of coffee (or whatever drink makes you feel cozy), and let’s explore these sides of yourself together. We’re gonna dig deep but in a way that feels empowering, not overwhelming.
Here’s an example of what we’re going for:
Ya ready?!
7 Shadow Work Journal Prompts to Tap Into Every Part of Yourself
1. Tap Into Your Insecure Side
Prompt: “What triggers feelings of insecurity in me? How do these insecurities hold me back in my daily life?”
Okay, let’s be real. We all feel insecure sometimes. Maybe it’s comparing yourself to others or doubting your abilities. Insecurity is that annoying little voice in your head saying, “You’re not enough.”
But instead of letting it run the show, let’s get curious about where it’s coming from. Think about those moments when insecurity really hits you. What’s happening in that situation?
And more importantly, how are those feelings keeping you from going after what you want? Write it down, and let yourself get honest here. This is where the breakthroughs start.

2. Tap Into Your Curious Side
Prompt: “What’s something I’ve always been curious about but never explored? Why have I been holding myself back from following that curiosity?”
Remember when you were a kid and everything was interesting? Like, you wanted to know why the sky was blue or how birds fly. That curious side of you is still there, but maybe it’s been pushed aside by adult responsibilities or the fear of looking silly.
So, what’s something you’ve always wanted to explore but just… haven’t? Maybe it’s learning to paint, trying yoga, or even something like starting a business.
Why haven’t you let yourself follow that curiosity? Let’s unpack that and see if there’s a way to bring some of that adventurous energy back into your life.
3. Tap Into Your Angry Side
Prompt: “When was the last time I felt angry? What did that anger reveal about something I’m not fully addressing in my life?”
Oh, anger. It’s messy, it’s loud, and most of us try to shove it down because it feels uncomfortable. But here’s the thing—anger can be super revealing if you let it.
So think back to the last time you got really angry. What was the deal? Instead of just focusing on the situation, ask yourself: What’s underneath that anger?
Is there something in your life you’re not fully acknowledging, like a boundary being crossed or a need going unmet? Your anger is trying to tell you something—let’s figure out what that is.

4. Tap Into Your Vulnerable Side
Prompt: “What’s something I’ve been scared to admit to others or even to myself? How could owning this vulnerability lead to deeper connection or healing?”
Let’s talk vulnerability. Being vulnerable is hard. Like, really hard. But it’s also where some of the best things happen—things like deeper connections, healing, and even personal growth.
Think about something you’ve been too scared to admit, whether it’s to someone else or even to yourself. Maybe it’s a fear, a desire, or something that makes you feel exposed.
How would things change if you owned that vulnerability instead of running from it? Trust me, embracing that raw, honest part of you can open doors you didn’t even know were locked.
5. Tap Into Your Jealous Side
Prompt: “When I feel jealous of someone, what exactly am I envious of? What unmet desires or needs is that jealousy revealing to me?”
Jealousy isn’t exactly the funnest emotion. It’s the one we hate to admit, but it pops up when you least expect it. Whether it’s seeing someone else’s success, their relationship, or something you wish you had, jealousy can actually be super eye-opening.
The trick is to figure out what it’s really telling you. Ask yourself: What about that person’s life or situation is triggering me? What do they have that I want? Is it success, attention, love, freedom?
Your jealousy might be shining a spotlight on something you need to explore within yourself—whether it’s a desire you’re ignoring or a goal you’ve been too scared to go after.
6. Tap Into Your Inner Child
Prompt: “What did my inner child love to do that I’ve lost touch with? How can I reconnect with that sense of joy and wonder?”
Ah, the inner child. That part of you who loved to play, be silly, and didn’t care about “adulting.” When was the last time you let yourself tap into that carefree joy?
Think back to when you were little—what did you love doing for fun? Building forts? Drawing? Running around outside without a care in the world? Chances are, life got busy, and you’ve lost touch with that playful side.
But you know what? Your inner child is still there, waiting for you to reconnect. (Pssst…by the way, my inner child workbook is amazing for finding reconnection and healing from your past).
So how can you invite a little more of that childlike joy back into your everyday life? It doesn’t have to be anything big—sometimes dancing around your living room is enough.
7. Tap Into Your Inspired Side
Prompt: “What inspires me to take action, and how can I channel that inspiration into my daily life?”
Let’s end on a high note—your inspired side! This is the part of you that feels lit up and ready to go. When was the last time you felt that rush of excitement and drive to take action?
Maybe it’s when you’re creating, working on a project you love, or even just spending time in nature. What gives you that spark? Now, how can you tap into that inspiration more often?
Don’t wait for those perfect moments—find small ways to bring that inspired energy into your day-to-day life, even when things feel ordinary.
