Meet The founder
Alexa Davis
Thanks for stopping by! I’m Alexa Davis, founder of the self care blog Ambitiously Alexa. I’m a big believer in prioritizing self care, but even doubly so if your life is crazy and hectic! So, what’s a relatively simple and not-so-time-consuming way to sprinkle a little self care into your routine?
By journaling!
And that’s what I’m here to help you with! You may be here because you’ve got a lot going on, but you know you need to make time for yourself. Journaling allows the opportunity to pause, reflect, and connect with yourself in the midst of your busy life. Couldn’t we all use a moment to check in with ourselves?
If you’re stressed, overwhelmed, or even on the brink of burnout, you might feel like there’s no way you can add anything else to your plate. I get that, and I’ve been there!
I’ve had crazy schedules of being on the go from 9am to 9pm between a variety of obligations. School, work, research labs, blogging, you name it. And I sure as heck didn’t think I had the time to focus on self care, let alone time for everything I was doing.
But let me tell you, when I decided to make journaling a habit, I flourished.
I felt so much better mentally. I felt like I could understand why I was thinking, feeling, and behaving the way I was.
Even when I was in the middle of chaos. Even on nights where all I have is 10 minutes to spare and I’m already in bed.
But after each journal entry, each time I put down the pen or log my thoughts in an app, I feel a release. Getting the thoughts out of my head and onto paper allows me to let go a little more each time. I gain better insight and awareness of my needs. Really, all positives and no negatives to report here!
And I want you to experience the same! Which is why this blog offers you the prompts, tips, tools, and resources to make journaling part of your self care routine, too. Whether you’re just getting started on your self care journey or you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll find what you need here!
There’s 3 crucial areas of journaling that this blog focuses on:
001.
self care
journaling
Self care is all about taking action. It is taking the necessary steps to improve or manage your emotional or psychological wellbeing.
Self care journaling helps you plan and understand what actions you need to take to improve your mental health. It can focus on things like identifying good habits you’d like to start or checking in on your needs and progress.
002.
self love
journaling
While often confused for self care, self love is less about improvement and more about acceptance. You already know you have room to improve. We all do.
But you still need to meet yourself where you’re at and accept yourself regardless. Judging yourself for not being where you want to be will only harm you. You need to be patient, gentle, and unconditionally loving toward yourself to truly grow.
003.
self discovery
journaling
Who are you? Are you the same person now that you were 5 years ago? Self discovery journaling will help you get in tune with your character traits, personality, and core values.
Having a solid understanding of these components will help you tailor your self care journey to match your needs and goals. Learning what works for you and what doesn’t will give you immense insight!
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Alexa’s Story in a Nutshell
I’m a 24-year-old creative with a B.A. degree in Psychology from San Diego State University. Psychology is the best thing I could have studied, and I want to use both my education + my love for writing to impact my little corner of the internet in some meaningful way.
I’ve also struggled with mental health issues for most of my life. And unfortunately, it wasn’t until adulthood that I truly discovered which coping strategies worked for me and which didn’t.
Spoiler alert: journaling was something that DID work!
So I think you can guess how this blog came about!
Journaling has been the opportunity for me to decompress, understand what emotions I might be suppressing, and simply learn more about myself and what I need to thrive.
I’ve always expressed myself best through writing, so journaling gives me the space to carefully process what I’m going through. I know many people can relate, so I’ve made it my mission to provide you with the resources you need to make journaling for self care easy and doable!
So here’s to brighter mental health days, working through the tough things, and getting clear on all the things that make you YOU.
We’re in this together!
