Relationships make up a BIG, meaningful part of your life. Humans crave deep interpersonal connection, so it only makes sense that we dedicate so much time to finding, growing, and nurturing our connections with others. Whether that’s a significant other, a best friend, or family, it’s all important to us!
These journal prompts for relationships are here to help you process your feelings about your current relationships. And after understanding yourself in relation to the people in your life, you can become a better communicator too!
Feel free to introduce these journal prompts to your loved ones as well. Their responses can give you a ton of insight into their deepest values in a relationship. Together, you can learn more about each other and get even closer. It’s a win for everyone!
First things first…
Learning about the person in your relationship is an ongoing process.
Whether it’s your friend, significant other, mom, sister, or anyone in your life you care about, you never really stop learning about them. Even the longest of relationships admit that they’re still learning about each other after decades!
Sure, you might know the basics: whether they’re introverted or extroverted, how they grew up, what makes them happy. But there’s endless conversations yet to be had to dive even deeper and discover even more about the way they think and view the world.
And within discovering more about them, comes learning more about yourself! You start to recognize where your thoughts and beliefs stand in relation to theirs. You might uncover more similarities or differences, which all contribute to knowing a person in their fullest self.
The best way to dig deeper is to journal and reflect with each other, or about each other, so that’s what we’re doing!
What do you write in a relationship journal?
Of course, this will vary depending on the type of relationship we’re talking about: romantic, platonic, familial, etc.
But the goal is quite similar no matter what the relationship: journaling is a discovery process meant to deepen your understanding of the relationships in your life.
For romantic relationships, for example, I have a ton of unique ideas for journaling together as a couple right here! Don’t be afraid to get creative, open, and honest with one another.
