If you have a billion reminders floating around in your head like I do, you know how much better it feels to get those thoughts out of your head and onto paper! Just last night, I couldn’t fall asleep because I had a thousand different to-do’s racing around in my mind.
But when I utilize my planner to track all these things instead, my mind is WAY less overwhelmed.
With so many things to keep track of in adult life, you’ve got to keep them somewhere! You can think of it as decluttering your mental space. Not to mention how ultra-organized you’ll feel when you’re tracking everything you could possibly think of in a planner. (Not that you need to track all of these things, but I’m giving you plenty of ideas!)
When life gets chaotic, your planner is your best friend! So let’s buckle up, get organized, and dive into allllll the things to track in your planner throughout the year!
Here are 121 things to track in your planner that you NEVER even think about!

The best part about personal things to track in your planner is that it can include fun things too! It doesn’t always have to be serious business here. Anything’s game here!
- Personal goals (ideas for personal goals here!)
- Daily affirmations

- Usernames/passwords
- Bucket list items
- AncestryDNA results (cool to refer back to if you have a lot of nationalities!)
- Parties and social events
- Movies you want to see

School Things to Track
If you’re a student, staying organized helps all your classes and assignments flow so much smoother! There’s nothing worse than forgetting about an assignment or exam, so at a minimum you must have an assignment tracker!
- Class schedule
- Assignments and deadlines
- Exams

Schedules to Track in Your Planner
If you have a lot of different obligations, tracking your schedule for each obligation is probably the main reason you have a planner in the first place. Don’t forget to include these things to track in your planner!
- Work schedule
- Class schedule
- Hobbies and extracurriculars (zumba class? Meetings?)
- Upcoming vacations
- Your significant other’s schedule
- Cleaning and housework schedule
Finances
Bills and budget tracking are a super crucial area of your life, so make sure you’re living within your means and staying on top of bills! (Better yet, I just keep all my bills on autopay, but you do you!)
- Budget and savings tracker (I have a budget tracker template here!)
- Debt tracker (and how much you’ve paid off)
- Due dates for bills
- Pay day tracker

Health and Wellness
Health and wellness can sometimes be overlooked, but they definitely shouldn’t be! Make sure you’re prioritizing both your physical and mental health too. I like to track my anxiety symptoms to check in on the severity and type of symptoms I’m having so I can monitor how I’m doing. Your health is super important, so make sure you’re including it in the things to track in your planner!
You can grab my (free!) printable anxiety tracker below to start doing the same! It really is a big help in determining the course of my anxiety improvement.
- Anxiety, depression, or other mental illness symptom tracking
- Therapy and psychiatry appointments
- List of medications and dosages (medication history isn’t a bad idea either if you’re trying out different medications to find the right one!)
- Dental appointments
- Doctor’s appointments
- Menstrual cycle tracking
- Weight loss tracker
- Exercise tracker (best exercise routine ideas for mental health here!)
- Step tracker
- Food diary
- Water intake
- Mood tracking
- Body measurements
- Meditation tracker
Just a careful side note: I know that eating and weight loss can be a touchy, sensitive subject. Don’t feel like you need to be tracking things like measurements and food to be healthy! I only include these on there for those who have a (healthy, reasonable) goal of weight loss, but don’t get caught up on these stats if they are triggering for you to monitor!
Memories to Track In Your Planner
Back to my earlier point about how your planner should still be fun, why not use it as a place to store the memories you care about?! You can have a section that can be treated like a scrapbook! You’ll be glad you have a special place dedicated to the sentimental things to track in your planner.
- Photos (did you know you can print Polaroid photos from your phone with the Polaroid Lab?! Go check it out! This is a great way to get planner-sized photos to paste into your planner.)
- Small blurbs of fun activities with friends and family
- Funny quotes said by friends and family
- Movie ticket stubs, plane tickets, or other momentos
- Memories of goals you’ve reached and things you’ve accomplished
Home and Car Maintenance
Because household maintenance and car stuff is sooooo fun….you probably think about it 24/7! (Totally kidding.) It’s super useful to keep track of oil changes, cleaning schedules, and more because I know I barely remember the last time I took care of certain infrequent chores!
- Cleaning schedule (I like to organize this by room)
- Tracker for infrequent household chores (changing the HVAC filter, smoke alarm battery replacement, cleaned behind the fridge, etc).
- Tracker for car maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, tire replacement, battery replacement, full maintenance check)
- House projects or room transformations to do
- Menu planning
- Grocery lists
- Pantry inventory
- Fridge inventory
- Freezer inventory
- Household supplies inventory (paper towels, dish soap, etc.)
Family and Relationships
Don’t forget about date nights or family activities! If you feel like you’re running out of things to do with your significant other, you might want to keep a running list of new things to try together! Date night ideas and other important relationship-boosters are always great things to track in your planner!
- Date night schedule and ideas
- Family birthdays
- Little notes about your partner (their likes, dislikes, favorite things)
- Anniversaries (not just your “official” date, but the date you moved in together or anything else significant!)
Entertainment
It’s always nice to look forward to concerts, movies, and other entertainment you love! Writing down upcoming concert dates and the like is a great way to give yourself a little burst of joy!
- Upcoming concert or music festival dates
- Upcoming dates of movies you want to see in theatres
- TV show premiere dates
- Video game release dates
- Music album release dates
To Do Lists and Habits to Track in Your Planner
I am passionate about alllll the to do lists and habit trackers! I think these are a great way to get your routines in check and make sure you’re being productive. You can consider things like your morning and night routines, healthy habits you’d like to pick up, and random things you’d like to get done! It’s all about using the things to track in your planner to keep you organized.
- List of habits you want to break
- List of habits to create your “ideal life”
- Then, organize those habits into a habit tracker
- “Master to do list” of all the things you’ve wanted to get around to
- Hobbies you’d like to get into (list of 100 hobby ideas here!)

- Packing lists (maybe a go-to summer and winter packing list)
- Map of places you’ve been
- Travel photos
- Trip itinerary
- Travel journal
- Favorite places visited in each location (restaurants, coffee shops, etc.)
Contacts
Chances are you don’t have all your contacts written down somewhere in a safe physical location, but you absolutely should! Phones can get lost and backups can sometimes be unreliable, so definitely keep your contacts somewhere in your planner as an extra safety measure!
- Family contacts
- Friends’ contacts
- Work and business contacts
- Former employers that you’d like to keep as references
- People who provide services to you (hair stylist, massage therapist, maintenance team, etc.)
- Doctors, dentists, therapists
- Emergency contacts

How to Choose What to Track
I know, this is quite the hefty list of things to track in your planner! To help you figure it out, you should ask yourself: what purpose do you want your planner to serve?
It could be…
- To help you focus – narrow your trackable items down by what you know you need to focus on. While it might be fun to add some scrapbooking into your planner, if that makes things too cluttered or time-consuming for you, you don’t need to do it! Creativity is fun, but keeping a clean and simple design might be easier on your brain.
- Keeping memories – whether this be important information or the details of the perfect date you went on, let your planner serve as a way to record the sentimental things you never want to forget!
- Organizing everything all in one place – if you are guilty of using a thousand different notebooks for different things, you might just be creating more disorganization instead of organization! Keeping sections for different things within one planner will make things far more streamlined.
So keep those points in mind as you sort through this list of things to track in your planner! You don’t have to track it ALL, just keep it geared toward the important stuff.
This post was all about things to track in your planner.
Now you have plenty of ideas for things to track in your planner! You won’t miss a beat with this level of organization. Let me know which of these ideas you’re most excited to start tracking in your planner!
